Balochistan is the largest and the most mineral & hydrocarbon-rich province of Pakistan. About 90% of the area of the province is unexplored and Geology is the core subject to explore these hidden treasures.
Keeping in view the importance of hidden natural resources and their use in the economic development of the country, it was absolutely crucial to establish the department of Geological Engineering. Based on the essential needs, the Department of Geological Engineering was initiated in 2008 as the first degree awarding Geological Engineering program under the faculty of Engineering at BUITEMS.
Geological Engineers can explore, identify and guide people regarding mineral and hydrocarbon discovery in all mineral rich areas. Geological Engineers can analyse the engineering behaviour of Geotechnics, rock and soil against the constructed projects. This field is particularly prolific in terms of employment at the energy sector. The graduates may join as a Geotechnical Engineer/Geologist/ Construction Consultants, Civil contractors in major petroleum and gas related organisation, atomic energy, Irrigation Department, Education Institutions and organization in the private and public sector. Besides, geological engineers may assist in the Natural Energy Resources Exploration.
The Department of Geological Engineering is committed to train engineers with advanced knowledge and contemporary skills, while promoting a culture of research, equipping students with the art of living to achieve success in their future professional careers not only in Pakistan but throughout the world.

- The ability to fulfil ethical, professional, and social responsibilities in their professional lives and community services.
Program Learning Outcomes
The following twelve program learning outcomes (as given in the PEC accreditation Manual 2014) have been adopted as the graduate attributes by the B.Sc. Geological Engineering Program at BUITEMS:
...
- Engineering Knowledge: An ability to apply
mathematics, science and engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization
to the solution of complex computer engineering problems.
- Problem Analysis: An ability to identify,
formulate, and analyze complex computer engineering problems and to be able to
acquire substantiated conclusions using principles of computer engineering, natural
sciences and engineering sciences.
- Design/Development of Solutions: An ability to
design solutions for complex computer engineering problems and design systems,
components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for
public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
- Investigation: An ability to investigate complex
engineering problems in a methodical way including literature survey, design and
conduct of experiments, analysis, and interpretation of experimental data, and
synthesis of information to derive valid conclusions.
- Modern Tool Usage: An ability to create, select and
apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools,
including prediction and modeling, to complex engineering activities, with an
understanding of the inherent limitations.
- The Engineer and Society: An ability to apply
reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal
and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional
engineering practice and solution to complex engineering problems.
- Environment and Sustainability: An ability to
understand the impact of professional engineering solutions in societal and
environmental contexts and demonstrate knowledge of and need for sustainable
development.
- Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to
professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering practice.
- Individual and Team Work: An ability to work
effectively, as an individual or in a team, on multifaceted and /or
multidisciplinary settings.
- Communication: An ability to communicate
effectively, orally as well as in writing, on complex engineering activities with
the engineering community and with society at large, such as being able to
comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective
presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
- Project Management: An ability to demonstrate
management skills and apply engineering principles to one’s own work, as a member
and/or leader in a team, to manage projects in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Lifelong Learning: An ability to recognize the
importance of and be able to pursue lifelong learning in the broader context of
