Combating Tobacco and Drug Abuse in HEIs

An awareness session on Combating Tobacco and Drug Abuse in HEIs was conducted in the Orange Hall, SSA, BUITEMS on Tuesday, July 23rd, 2024. The session started with the recitation of holy verses by a student of BSPA. Dr. Bilal Sarwar, Director, Quality Enhancement & Accreditation, BUITEMS welcomed all esteemed guests, faculty and students.

Session 1: Policy on Drug and Tobacco Abuse in Higher Education Institutions
Dr. Bilal Sarwar briefed the students and faculty regarding the Higher Education Commission’s Anti-Tobacco and Drug Abuse Policy, emphasizing the importance of a structured approach to address these issues among students. He stressed that all the University stakeholders must work together to address this challenge.

Session 2: The Drug Epidemic Among Youth: Causes, Consequences, and Solutions
A team led by Mr. Ghulam Abbas from Milo Shaheed Trust provided an in-depth analysis of the rising drug epidemic among youth, exploring the root causes, the adverse consequences on individuals and society, and potential solutions to mitigate the problem.

Session 3: Civic Duties to Curb Narcotics
Mr. Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat, Commissioner Quetta Division has a fruitful debate with the audience on the civic responsibilities of individuals and communities in curbing narcotics, highlighting the role of citizens in supporting law enforcement and community initiatives.

Session 4: Drug Awareness Talk
Lt. Col. Omer Naeem Khan, Deputy Regional Directorate Commander, ANF Balochistan gave an informative talk on drug awareness, focusing on the efforts of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) in combating drug abuse in the region, and the importance of awareness and preventive measures.

Outcome:
The awareness session successfully addressed various aspects of drug and tobacco abuse, providing participants with valuable insights into the policies, causes, consequences, and solutions. The speakers highlighted the importance of a collective effort from educational institutions, law enforcement, and the community to tackle this issue effectively.
