COP29 Baku Azerbaijan

The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) is a pivotal global event under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Hosted in Baku, Azerbaijan, this conference brings together world leaders, policymakers, environmentalists, industry stakeholders, and innovators to discuss and implement strategies for combating climate change. It serves as a platform for nations to evaluate progress on climate commitments and promote sustainable development goals through collaborative efforts.

Dr. Qasim Siddiqui, Chairman Department of Textile Engineering and Design, had the privilege to present innovative solution of utilizing agricultural waste to produce eco-friendly products as alternatives to synthetic materials. To combat effects of climate change, Dr Siddiqui highlights the efforts in reducing waste, promoting green energy, and providing livelihood opportunities to rural communities and share insights on:

• The potential of natural fibres to replace synthetic, petroleum-based materials like polyester and nylon.
• Strategies to repurpose agricultural waste, reducing environmental impact while fostering rural employment and socioeconomic growth.
• The scalability of our solutions to address global climate challenges.

During COP29 Dr. Qasim Siddiqui also participated in discussions, including those at the ITC Pavilion and roundtable sessions with organizations like the World Bank and WTO, and emphasized the role of green innovation and SME empowerment in achieving climate goals. Together, we aim to innovate and implement solutions for a greener future.
