Quetta — The Civil Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering & Architecture (FOE&A) at the Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) took a leading role in the university-wide Open Day 2025 — “Shaping the Future, Today”, held on Thursday, 18 September 2025. The department’s stall, organized by the Civil Engineering Society (CES), offered prospective students and visitors an engaging, practical glimpse into engineering education at BUITEMS.
A hub of innovation and engagement
Located in a prominent position on campus, the Civil Engineering stall combined interactive demonstrations, models, and information desks to showcase the department’s curriculum, laboratory facilities, and student projects. Live demonstrations of surveying instruments and other professional tools allowed visitors to experience first-hand how classroom theory translates into real engineering practice.
The stall attracted steady interest throughout the day and served as a dynamic entry point for conversations about careers in infrastructure, environmental engineering, construction technology, and sustainable design. Clear, professionally produced posters, brochures, and project displays helped parents and students understand pathways from admission to employment.
Student volunteers: backbone of the outreach
A team of 25 committed volunteers from the 3rd, 5th and 7th semesters powered the stall operations — welcoming visitors, conducting demonstrations, and answering detailed questions about the program. Their enthusiasm, clarity, and teamwork were repeatedly praised by guests and faculty, underlining BUITEMS’ focus on student leadership and practical learning.
Faculty leadership and institutional endorsement
Faculty members were actively present throughout the event, guiding technical demonstrations and engaging with attendees. The visit of the Civil Engineering Chairperson, Dr. Engr. Naik Muhammad added gravitas to the stall; his interactions with students, parents, and volunteers reinforced the department’s commitment to high-quality instruction and student mentorship.
Campus experience & career pathways
Beyond hands-on tools, the stall highlighted career options available to BUITEMS graduates — from public works and construction management to environmental consultancy and research. The practical displays and conversations were designed to help students visualize their future professions, build confidence in choosing engineering, and understand the support BUITEMS provides for internships and industry linkages.
Outcomes & recommendations
The Civil Engineering Department’s participation in Open Day 2025 successfully:
Demonstrated BUITEMS’ applied teaching approach and industry-relevant training.
Strengthened trust with prospective students and families by showcasing real student work and faculty engagement.
Highlighted student leadership through well-organized volunteer efforts.
To build on this success the report recommends: increasing the number and variety of live demonstrations, integrating alumni success stories into future stalls, and enhancing digital/interactive displays (video walkthroughs, project portfolios) to complement physical exhibits.
