Quetta, October 2025 – The PhD Scholars of the Department of Environmental Sciences, BUITEMS, successfully organized a One-Day Training Workshop on “Environmental Health and Policy: Medical Perspectives from Quetta” at the BUITEMS Training Hall.
The workshop was led by Dr. Anila Ali, Chairperson, Department of Environmental Sciences, and brought together faculty, scholars, and medical experts to discuss the intersection of environmental challenges and public health in Quetta.
Leadership and Key Messages
The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Khalid Hafeez, Vice Chancellor BUITEMS, as Chief Guest, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Naeem Shahwani, Dean FLSI, as Guest of Honor. Both highlighted the urgent need for collaboration between environmental scientists, medical professionals, and policymakers to mitigate Quetta’s escalating health challenges caused by air pollution, unsafe drinking water, poor waste management, and climate stress.

They delivered impactful training by connecting environmental degradation with medical perspectives, offering practical insights on how poor environmental conditions translate into direct health risks.
Participation and Outcomes
The workshop engaged 10 faculty members from different BUITEMS departments and more than 40 PhD, MS, and senior BS students. Participants actively contributed to discussions and group activities, which culminated in the formulation of recommendations for evidence-based policies, interdisciplinary research, and community-driven health solutions.

The workshop reinforced BUITEMS’ role as a hub for knowledge generation, research, and policy advocacy, addressing pressing regional and national challenges in environmental health.
