Department of Petroleum and Gas Engineering

Baluchistan is rich in natural resources like oil, gas and minerals. The largest reserves of gas exist in the area of Sui of this province, which meets one-third of the country’s energy requirements. Engineering education in the country has significantly assisted the exploitation of natural resources. All we need is the excellence in engineering education by continuously producing well-trained engineers with skills required for growing industries. Therefore, keeping in view this essential need, a department of Petroleum and Gas was initiated in the fall of 2004 as the first and pioneering department in the newly established Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences (later renamed as the Faculty of Engineering). Currently, a four-year BS Petroleum & Gas Engineering program is offered in the department. The graduates will serve the oil and gas sector and petrochemical-based industries as well as serving other public and private sector organizations.

The four-year BS Petroleum and Gas Engineering has been accredited by Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC). Petroleum & Gas Engineering program equips its student with scientific and computer-based skills for exploration, drilling, exploitation and development of existing oil and gas fields. Special emphasis is given to drilling, production, reservoir engineering, well testing, well logging, petroleum economics, petroleum refinery, and environment and safety management subjects. Thus, engineers from the department will be absorbed in exploration and production as well as service and marketing activities of national and international companies.

The program cultivates industrious engineers for the national and international petroleum and gas industry and its related fields in education, business, and government by providing technical knowledge, skills and values through academic inquiry, teaching and technical services.

Admission Requirement

  • F.Sc (Pre-Engineering) from any recognized board or equivalent with at least 60% marks.
  • Diploma of Associate Engineer (DAE) in the relevant field securing at least 60% marks.
  • Entry test will be conducted by NTS.

  • Total Credit Hours: 136
  • Total Courses: 44
  • Minimum CGPA ≥ 2.0
  • The student must pass all twelve Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) during the four-year BS Petroleum & Gas Engineering program.

Program Educational Objectives

The graduates of Petroleum and Gas Engineering department will be able to:

Program Learning Outcomes

Program learning outcomes (PLOs) of the P&G program have been adopted from the graduate attributes for engineers defined in the Pakistan Engineer Council (PEC) Outcome Based Assessment (OBA) Manual, 2014. The graduates of Petroleum and Gas Engineering program will attain the following attributes: ...

  • Engineering Knowledge: An ability to apply mathematics, science and engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex computer engineering problems.
  • Problem Analysis: An ability to identify, formulate, and analyze complex computer engineering problems and to be able to acquire substantiated conclusions using principles of computer engineering, natural sciences and engineering sciences.
  • Design/Development of Solutions: An ability to design solutions for complex computer engineering problems and design systems, components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
