Student’s membership form
Required documents (two recent passport size photographs, student university card copy, and bank challan copy) duly attested/stamped by the chairperson of the department, Library circulation desk shall issue a library membership card to the students.
Faculty/Administration membership form
Required documents (One recent passport size photograph, photocopy of notification/order) duly attested/stamped by the Dean/Officer.
The users are responsible to follow all the library rules and to provide correct information such as: mailing address and cell no. etc., any change of address or others shall be reported to the library circulation counter to keep up-to-date library record.
Borrowing and Renewal Services
The members can borrow books:
Return of books
All books and other material of library shall be issued and returned from the circulation counter.
Renewal of the books
The Library materials borrowed by any member can be renewed or re-issued, three times at maximum. However, the materials requested for reserve can be renewed. All overdue books must be returned and fines paid before the item(s) may be renewed.
Reservation of the books
A user may reserve a book which is out on loan to ensure that he/she gets the books when it is returned. Reservation of books with status ‘on loan’ can be done via the library catalogue (OPAC) and printed form at circulation counter. Users can manage the status of the reservation if they do it online. A notice will be sent to the requestor informing him/her to claim the reserved book when it is available. The book will be kept (on hold) at the circulation counter for 03 days after that it will be returned to the shelves.
Reference Services
Reference services in the library consist of selection of reference resources, current awareness service, library instruction, preparation of bibliographies, graded reading lists, publication of guidelines, newsletters, inter-library loan, and reference sources evaluation.
Ready reference resources: the library contains dictionaries, thesaurus, encyclopedias, handbooks, year books, atlases, almanacs and gazetteers. These collections are maintained on ready reference shelf.
User guides: Publication of library user guides, brochures, posters, etc. to disseminate library information.
Virtual reference: Reference service may also be given through telephone, mobile app, whats-up, SMS and e-mail.
Inter Library Loan (ILL) Services
Incase patrons need an item which is not available in BUITEMS library collection, library will attempt to borrow it from another library within the city/country through 'Inter-Library Loan' arrangement. Check holdings of the library carefully before requesting an item through ILL.
Room Reservation
BUITEMS Library provides separate individual and group discussion rooms for faculty and researchers. The keys are issued at circulation counter on daily base.
Help Desk
Reference enquiry: Information desks are available at the library which is operated by trained staff to assist library users. Contact librarians also entertain walk-in enquires at their offices.
Searching assistance: Readers can make a request for searching assistance at the circulation counter incase the required books are not available on the shelves by completing the request for searching assistance form, library staff will then search for the required books, and results of searches will be handed over to reader.
Digital signage: Library notices, new arrivals and announcements are displayed at the LCD which is available inside the library entrance. This service is in addition to announcements made through print notices and the library’s webpage.
New arrivals: This service, which is accessible through the library’s catalogue, alerts users on new titles acquired by the library. The new titles list is automatically updated. The library users may borrow the books if available on the shelves or reserve them if the books are on loan.
User education: The library also provides a variety of user education programs to enable users to utilize the library to its maximum potential. These programs educate the users on the techniques of searching for information from abstracts, indexes, databases and other information sources.
Library orientation: The library orientation programs help to tell new students/faculty members as well as admin staff with the services and facilities available in the library. These are usually conducted at the beginning of every new semester.
Internet workstations facility: Internet connected computers are available at many places of the library floors. Users are required to login to use computers, and usage is restricted for two hours for academic use only.
User guides: Publication of library user guides, brochures, posters, etc. to disseminate library information.
Wi-Fi facility: Personal laptop, tablet and smartphone utilization in the library is facilitated by Wi-Fi network. To utilize this facility, users may require registering his/her laptop at Directorate of IT. The library provides power charging points for personal laptops, tablet, and smartphones. Look out for areas identified for this purpose.
