A training workshop titled “Survival Skills Development to Build Resilience for Natural Disasters” was held from 5th to 8th March 2024, at BUITEMS Quetta. The training was aimed at enhancing the capacity of the participants regarding disaster preparedness. The 4 days session included a wide range of topics that are essential to survive in extreme conditions. The workshop was jointly organized by BUTIEMS Department of Environmental Sciences & Department of Training & Development. The event was funded under HEC Grant for Trainings, awarded to Dr. Anila Ali. Keeping in view the vulnerability of natural disasters in Balochistan, such trainings are essential to disseminate essential survival skills among the public.
The four days sessions included the following topics:
1. Outdoor Basic Survival Skills
2. Causes & Impacts of Natural Disasters
3. Psychological Impacts of Disasters
4. First Aid Course
5. Counseling & Stress Management
6. Leadership Skills
7. Water, Fire & Shelter
8. Fire Safety
Day 1 of the Session embarked with sharing survivals success stories with the participants, followed by in-depth presentations and various group activities. Day 2 was totally dedicated to a course on First Aid. Day 3 included a wide range of topics, which included stress management leadership skills and a session on water finding, water filtration, fire & shelter making etc. Day 4 of the training was dedicated to an in-depth session on Fire Safety.
Participants gave very overwhelming feedback at the conclusion of the training; they learnt many new things and enjoyed the practical sessions. Resource persons in the training were: Dr. Anila Ali, Dr. Gorham Malghani, Dr. Sri Chand, Mr. Asmat Ullah, Mr. Tanveer Hashim Durrani, Mr. Muhammad Shah Khan, and Mr. Mayen Khan.
VC BUITEMS attended the closing ceremony and remarked that such trainings are important and disaster preparedness is among the top priorities of BUITEMS.
