A conference on International Mountain Day 11th December 2024 was held at Orange Hall, BUITEMS. The conference was organized by the Department of Training and Development, BUITEMS. The program was attended by local community members, mountaineering community, government officials, NGO, faculty members, researchers, environmental activists and students. Representatives from District Killa Saif Ullah, Killa Abullah, Pishin and Quetta participated in the event. The local community members were from the few remaining mountain biodiversity hotspot in the province. Those mountains include Torghar, Takatu, Chiltan, Khwajaimran and Naseeruddin mountain. Mr. Muhammad Niaz Khan Kakar Conservator of Forests delivered a presentation and assured the support for local communities to collaboration for conservation efforts and sustainable solutions. Conservation of mountain biodiversity hotspots were highlighted during the event. Local community members were awarded for their conservation efforts. Mr. Murad Ali, the first mountaineer from the province of Balochistan to summit an 8000-meter peak was also awarded. Mr. Murad Ali summited Broad Peak (8,051 meters) in 2024. Broad peak is the 12th highest mountain in the world, located in the Karakoram Mountain Range, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.
A panel discussion was held with local members and faculty, which was followed by an in-depth question-answers session. This was the first time a wildlife conservation initiative from District Killa Abdullah was highlighted. Mr. Amir Khusro Khan, Mr. Asadullah Khan Bazai, Mr. Shams Uddin Jalalzai, Mr. Masood Achakzai, Mr. Tariq Shahwani, Mr. Aimal Khan Bazai, Dr. Nazeer Ahmed, and Mr. Arbab Mirwise Khan Kasi (Pro-VC BUITEMS) attended the event. Dr. Imran Sani, Atta Ullah Pindrani and Mr. Amjad Khan delivered presentations and highlighted the importance of conservation and the use of technology. Mr. Mayen Khan delivered the opening presentation about wildlife in the mountains of Balochistan and moderated the panel discussion.
