BUITEMS Holds its 20th Convocation with Over 700 Graduates Honored
The 20th Convocation of the Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering, and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) was held on Thursday, December 19, 2024 a proud moment celebrating the remarkable achievements of over 700 graduates. The event took place at BUITEMS’s main campus in Quetta, attended by distinguished guests, faculty members, graduates, and their families.
The honorable Governor of Balochistan and Chancellor of BUITEMS, Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Also present was Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, who added further significance to the event with his presence.
A Day of Celebration and Reflection
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the national anthem. The Vice-Chancellor of BUITEMS, Prof. Dr. Khalid Hafeez, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the university's achievements over the past year and its ongoing commitment to excellence in education and research.
Addressing the graduates, the Governor of Balochistan emphasized the importance of education in shaping the future of Balochistan and Pakistan. He commended BUITEMS for its role as a beacon of academic excellence and innovation, underscoring its distinction as the only university in the world serving as the SDG #8 Hub for Decent Work and Economic Growth.
Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, in his remarks, encouraged the graduates to leverage their knowledge and skills for national development. He lauded BUITEMS’s efforts in empowering the youth of Balochistan and aligning its academic programs with the market’s evolving needs.
Honoring Achievements
The ceremony marked a significant milestone for more than 700 graduates, who were conferred their degrees in various disciplines. Among the highlights of the event were:
• Posthumous Degrees: Two posthumous degrees were awarded to late students in recognition of their academic achievements:
o Mr. Ali Akbar, BS in Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Information and Communication Technology.
o Syed Inayatullah Agha, PhD in Biotechnology. Faculty of Life Sciences and Informatics
These degrees were presented as a gesture of condolence and respect to their families.
• Awards and Recognitions: A total of 29 gold medals and 7 badges of honor were awarded to graduates for their exceptional academic performance.
BUITEMS: A Growing Global Presence
The event also served as a platform to celebrate BUITEMS increasing recognition on national and global platforms. The university is ranked in the 1201–1500 range in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and among the top 500 universities globally in multidisciplinary research. BUITEMS unique role as the SDG #8 Hub further highlights its commitment to sustainable development and economic growth.
